Since obviously there are all women of color on the stage, I have to ask: What do you feel, as a woman of color, has been the best advice that you've been given or that you try to take with you every day?NW: I remember this one day. I came home, and I think it was in third grade, and I said, "Some boy touched my hair today and he said that it was weird." My mom told me that the next time somebody touched my hair that I'd have to go to the principal's office. If she hadn't told me that, I wouldn't have done that. That really was the point at which I started to stand up for myself. It still happened, and I'll explain to people why it's wrong, even though it's not my place to explain to them because it shouldn't... that should have been a given that they knew that you don't touch other people's hair, because it's dehumanizing.
