I needed to take a break and step outside myself…I needed a dose of reality and I needed to see myself in a more objective point of view." They never spoiled us as kids, and were always very careful with how they spent it. Our mom, funnily enough, was the one that enforced most of the rules of Islam in the household — she was always telling us, “Cover your arms” or “Don’t show your midriff too much,” or, “Your shorts are too short.” She also learned how to cook Pakistani food!
