Newman recalls that after displaying the trans pride flag she had to quickly head over to the Capitol Building for a vote and some meetings. When she got back to her office, her communications director informed her that she was getting a lot of media attention. It turned out that Greene, who sits directly across the hall from Newman in the Longworth House Office Building,had hung a sign “While Evie did the yeoman's work of actually working through this inner transition, it was incumbent upon me and my family to support her,” Newman says. “So we had a lot of work to do too…. She was already this incredibly articulate and beautifully spoken person, but she then had found the language inside of her to articulate how she's feeling.”
