In preparing for the day’s coverage, I was horrified to learn about a group of athletes who’d organized a counterprotest to the “Day of Silence.” The group came to school in a pack that morning, hollering about their heterosexuality and sporting blue T-shirts that read “I don’t swing that way.” I saw my brother’s grinning face among the sea of royal blue, testosterone-fueled bigotry. I didn’t talk to him for a week.
