Like me, they grew up believing that police response should be used as a last resort, if a resort at all, to any situation that might require help. They understood that police are quick to act violently and when they are called, they are too often looking for us: the black, the working-class, the poor, the unemployed, the whatever-else-that-fits-the-description.
