While it’s maddening that anyone would vote a man like this into office, his actions as President should not be that surprising. It seems to me that white Americans believe that naming the very real, systemic racism Trump has decided to perpetuate could illuminate just how closely he mirrors some of their own internal biases about minority groups in the country and across the globe. Trump has always been racist, but he only mirrors the behaviors of the country he is attempting to haphazardly lead. The truth is, Trump brings up a very particular person when he mentions immigrants: they are usually brown, they are usually cash-poor, and according to him, they’re dangerous. He himself stated in the same meeting that he wanted people from places like Norway to come to the U.S. instead — playing off the historical white supremacist ideal of Scandinavian white people as being the ideal kind of white person and strengthening Trump’s racist remark even more. His words draw inspiration from the idea that white, cisgender, heterosexual men are "losing their country” and his platform reflects the idea of reclaiming “America” to make it “great again."Twitter contentView on Twitter ?
