Cricket Australia chair Richard Freudenstein said: "Alan was a colossal figure in our game, not only as one of the finest players to have represented Australia and NSW, but for the positive influence he exerted across the game as an administrator, mentor and benefactor. "The group that I think will be so dodgy is Gary Anderson's with Michael Smith, Raymond van Barneveld and Joe Davis. Anderson has never failed to get out of his group and this will be his 15th year. He's played every single year but he could fail to get out of this group. "Wearing the same training kit and passing the ball to each other, it's crazy to be alongside these great players. I'm a bit speechless but I'm going to enjoy it as much as I can." Added into that was him being overwhelmed to receive the Harry Sunderland Trophy from Rob Burrow - the two-time Grand Final man of the match now battling motor neurone disease - along with the bringing the curtain down on his playing career in the perfect manner.
